Hibernacula: winter homes

The All-Mineral Hibernaculum is a space formed by cavities or cracks in rocks, offering shelter during cold or dry weather. It is a refuge for reptiles.

The All-Organic Hibernaculum is made of plant structures, such as dense shrubs, roots, and decaying leaves. Mushrooms break down dead organic matter, making essential mineral elements available to plants and other organisms again in a form that they can use. In this way, they recycle organic matter, accelerate decomposition and create a mature compost. This hibernaculum is a refuge for insects and amphibians.

The Mixed Hibernaculum combines natural elements such as rocks, tree trunks and decaying leaves. It offers a refuge for reptiles, amphibians and small mammals, especially in cold weather.
