The project

The West Calgary Ring Road (WCRR), which links Highway 8 to the Trans-Canada Highway, is the final section completing the city’s ring road and connecting it to the rest of the country.

The solution

The WCRR, a 100 km freeway around the city, is easing access to hospitals, schools, offices and leisure attractions while reducing congestion. Here, we helped the city to optimise its road traffic with a view to fostering sustainable regional development.

The challenge

The first challenge was to complete 100 km of continuous track, in a tight job market with fierce competition for skilled labour.

The second issue was to reuse materials. About 5 million of the 7 million cu. metres of excavated materials were usable, which involved daily decisions make sure we sent the right materials to the right place.

Performance

The project was completed 10 months ahead of schedule, thanks to the teams’ dedication and hard work.
